Senior Java Developer (Platform Modernization)

About the role

Addepto is modernising a large, business‑critical operational platform and needs a senior Java developer to join a small, senior team. You will work on re‑implementing legacy logic, building cloud‑native services on Azure and ensuring a seamless migration without downtime.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement backend services using Java, Spring Boot and related Spring ecosystem components.
• Analyse existing Java/Spring code and Oracle PL/SQL, re‑implement business rules as well‑tested Spring Boot services.
• Build the PostgreSQL data layer, including schema design, JPA/Hibernate mappings and versioned migrations (Flyway/Liquibase).
• Implement data migration tooling from Oracle to PostgreSQL to support parallel run and cut‑over.
• Develop contract‑first REST APIs (OpenAPI) and asynchronous integrations (Azure Service Bus, Kafka).
• Deliver data feeds to Databricks in collaboration with data engineers.
• Write automated tests at all levels (JUnit, Testcontainers, contract tests) and maintain production‑ready code.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, containerisation and Azure deployments across DEV/TEST/PROD.
• Implement logging, monitoring and alerting for 24/7 operation and support production readiness.

Required profile

• 5+ years of commercial Java backend development experience with hands‑on coding focus.
• Strong knowledge of Spring Boot, Spring Data, Spring Security and related technologies.
• Solid experience with relational databases, especially PostgreSQL and Oracle, including SQL, JPA/Hibernate and performance tuning.
• Proven ability to work with legacy codebases, refactor and safely migrate business logic.
• Experience building REST APIs and message‑driven integrations (Kafka, Azure Service Bus, RabbitMQ, IBM MQ).
• Working knowledge of Azure services (AKS, App Service, Functions, Service Bus, Key Vault, Entra ID) and containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Strong testing discipline covering unit, integration and contract tests.
• Good English communication skills and a pragmatic, get‑it‑built attitude.
