Senior C++ Developer - Power Grid Software

About the role

HITACHI ENERGY SERVICES is looking for an experienced R&D Software Developer focused on C++ application development for performance-critical systems, in its Grid Automation domain. The developer builds high-performance, secure software with a strong focus on real-time behaviour, reliability and long product lifecycle support, working alongside global technology teams.

Key responsibilities

• Design systems around multithreading, synchronization, I/O and latency requirements for real-time operation
• Build high-performance C++ cores for managed runtime services (.NET, Rust) with minimal latency overhead
• Profile threading, reduce lock contention and memory allocations in critical paths, and ensure predictable latency at scale
• Maintain code quality through code reviews, unit testing and SOLID, KISS, DRY principles
• Take part in architecture reviews, design documentation and roadmaps, and collaborate with engineering, product and business stakeholders
• Support technology decisions on dependencies, build tooling and secure software supply chain
• Drive cross-platform build system modernization and Linux/Windows compatibility, using practical Linux development
• Work in an agile environment, expand technical expertise and contribute to new features and system improvements

Required profile

• University degree in computer science, engineering or a related technical field
• 8+ years of experience in senior technical roles
• Demonstrated experience developing systems for power grid management and monitoring, with familiarity with WAMS/WAMPAC, PMU data and protection and control applications
• Experience with industrial automation systems (SCADA, IED, RTU) and industrial protocols (IEC 61850, IEC-60870-5-104, DNP3, OPC UA, IEEE C37.118) in plus
• Experience working with power grid industry clients and exposure to system integration, simulators or lab environments
• Excellent command of English, written and spoken

• Advanced C++ (C++17/20), RAII, smart pointers, STL, concurrency and memory management
• C# development in plus
• Multithreading, synchronization primitives, asynchronous I/O and real-time system design
• CMake, Visual Studio, Docker, Kubernetes and microservices
• Performance profiling, optimization and low-latency systems
• Unit and integration testing, and knowledge of non-functional requirements
