About the role
Aviva is hiring a Data Engineering Tech Lead for its Services Excellence Centre in Warsaw. You will lead a cross-functional engineering team in building a cloud-native Operational Data Store (ODS) platform, taking ownership of technical delivery and guiding developers to build scalable, event-driven data pipelines and microservices.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of data and backend engineers, break down architecture into clear tasks and designs, review code and act as the technical escalation point
- Guide the development of Kafka / MSK streaming pipelines, AWS Glue ETL jobs (Python/PySpark) and containerised microservices (ECS, Spring Boot / Python)
- Ensure delivery of scalable, resilient systems and drive CI/CD, testing and observability standards
- Implement end-to-end ODS data flows, apply event-driven and API-based integration patterns and enforce config-driven approaches (e.g. YAML mapping)
- Contribute to the golden path for domain onboarding
Required profile
- 5+ years of relevant professional experience
- Proven expertise in Kafka and event-driven architectures (MSK preferred) and the AWS data stack (Glue, S3, ECS, Postgres/Aurora)
- Experience building scalable data ingestion, processing and movement solutions
- Solid understanding of ODS, data modelling and transformation patterns, and integration patterns (API, event streaming, CDC)
- Experience in large-scale transformation programmes
Required skills
- SQL and data modelling
- Java, Python or another modern programming language
- Strong problem-solving, communication and stakeholder management skills
