Senior Research Specialist, Power

About the role

London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) is hiring a (Senior) Power Research Specialist for its Commodity Research division, which covers Power, Natural Gas, Coal and Carbon. The role develops fundamental supply-and-demand models, machine learning applications and weather-driven analytics for commodities markets, with a focus on power markets. It sits within the European office, with preference for Gdynia.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and improve fundamental supply-and-demand models for power and commodity markets, especially European power markets.
• Use weather forecasts and meteorological data to model renewable generation, power demand and weather-related market risks.
• Explore and apply AI techniques to improve research workflows, data extraction, forecasting support and client-facing analytics.
• Analyse large time-series and geospatial datasets with Python, R, MATLAB or similar tools.
• Contribute to short-, medium- and long-term power market forecasts.
• Produce analysis, reports and insights for traders, analysts, investors and other market participants.
• Collaborate with analysts, data scientists, engineers and product teams across LSEG's global Commodity Research organisation.

Required profile

• MSc or PhD in data science, computer science, AI, mathematics, statistics, physics, engineering, meteorology, economics, energy systems or equivalent.
• Strong analytical and quantitative modelling skills.
• Good understanding of supply-and-demand modelling for commodities; power market experience is a strong advantage.
• Solid background in statistics, machine learning, predictive modelling and time-series analysis.
• Excellent teamwork, communication and attention to detail, with good command of English.

Required skills

• Programming, preferably Python, R or MATLAB.
• Experience with large datasets, data pipelines, APIs, databases and cloud-based environments is an advantage.

What we offer

• Anticipated annual gross base salary of 119,200 to 188,400 PLN, depending on location and experience.
