Staff Backend Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Staff Backend Engineer to join our Core Backend team and help build the AI operating system for the insurance industry. You will design and implement reliable services, data models, pipelines, and evaluation loops that power decision‑making across our platform.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain core backend services that handle high‑value, fragmented data.
• Create and evolve data models, pipelines, and evaluation loops to improve data completeness and decision transparency.
• Build and operate serverless and cloud‑native infrastructure (e.g., AWS Lambda, EC2) supporting asynchronous workflows.
• Collaborate with product and data teams to ensure the intelligence layer delivers faster, more explainable decisions.
• Drive projects from concept to production with minimal oversight.

Required profile

• 8+ years of software engineering experience.
• Strong ownership mindset and ability to drive projects to completion.
• Proactive communicator who surfaces blockers and keeps stakeholders informed.
• Comfortable experimenting, testing ideas, measuring results, and iterating quickly.
• Solid fundamentals in system design, debugging, and problem‑solving.

Required skills

• Python (primary programming language).
• Serverless technologies such as AWS Lambda and EC2.
• Asynchronous workflow design.
• Cloud environments (AWS or equivalent).
• Relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL.
• Experience with LLMs/generative AI (bonus).
• Distributed systems knowledge (bonus).
