Senior Software Engineer - Agentic AI

About the role

ABB's Electrification Service Division is looking for a Senior Software Engineer - Agentic AI to build intelligent systems that help customers achieve better reliability, predictability, availability, sustainability and smarter lifecycle decisions. The role sits at the intersection of AI, backend engineering and enterprise integration, turning architectural designs into secure, scalable, production-ready solutions. It reports to the R&D Team Manager and works in a hybrid setting.

Key responsibilities

• Build, integrate and operate production-grade AI agents and agentic workflows across ABB ELSE digital services, moving beyond pilots to enterprise-ready solutions.
• Develop AI agents and multi-step workflows supporting digital service and asset management use cases.
• Turn solution designs into scalable, production-ready implementations.
• Connect agent workflows with enterprise platforms, operational data, APIs and digital tools.
• Define patterns for tool use, context management, memory, orchestration and workflow execution.
• Create evaluation and validation approaches for agent quality, safety, accuracy and performance.
• Implement human approval flows, fallback mechanisms and operational guardrails.
• Ensure production readiness through testing, monitoring, deployment automation and controlled releases.
• Work with architects, product owners, data engineers and software teams, and mentor colleagues.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, AI, Data Science, IT or a related field.
• 7+ years of software engineering experience, including enterprise-grade backend and cloud solutions.
• 2-3+ years of hands-on experience building AI-powered applications, LLM-integrated systems or agent-based workflows in production.
• Experience monitoring and optimizing AI systems for reliability, performance and cost.
• Ability to collaborate across technical and business teams and mentor colleagues.

Required skills

• Strong backend engineering, ideally in C#/.NET, with Python as a strong plus.
• APIs, Git, CI/CD, cloud deployment and secure enterprise integration.
• Agent evaluation, testing, verification, RAG, memory patterns, context management and agent control.
• Understanding of Microsoft enterprise security, compliance and identity patterns.
