Lead Machine Learning Engineer – Recommendation Systems

About the role

Grai, a social music app in its alpha stage, is looking for a Lead Machine Learning Engineer to own and evolve its recommendation and discovery engines. You will shape the technical vision, build scalable pipelines, and deliver real‑time, personalized experiences for millions of users.

Key responsibilities

• Define the long‑term architecture and roadmap for recommendation and personalization systems.
• Design and implement scalable retrieval, ranking, and re‑ranking pipelines handling massive user behavior and content data.
• Lead end‑to‑end ML infrastructure development, including automated data processing, feature stores, MLOps, and real‑time model monitoring.
• Mentor a team of ML engineers, fostering a culture of experimentation and technical excellence.
• Create offline evaluation frameworks and drive complex A/B testing to validate model performance.
• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to align ML initiatives with business metrics.

Required profile

• Proven experience designing, building, and scaling production‑grade recommendation or ranking systems.
• Strong background in distributed data systems and modern ML frameworks.
• Hands‑on expertise in deploying low‑latency models with feature stores, model registries, and drift monitoring.
• Demonstrated leadership and mentorship abilities while maintaining a technical hands‑on role.
