Senior Java Engineer - Security - Elasticsearch

About the role

Elastic is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for its Elasticsearch Security team. You will contribute to the architecture and design of Elasticsearch's main features, including authentication, authorization and tenant isolation, and work with engineering and product leaders to deliver high-performance security at scale.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute to core security initiatives from architecture through production, taking part in the technical design, planning and execution of major security components in the Elasticsearch core engine.
• Develop foundational security models and optimize security performance at scale in distributed systems.
• Apply cryptographic solutions to real customer use cases and ensure robust data isolation in shared infrastructure.
• Monitor and apply the latest security advances, including authentication, identity management, cryptography and data access management.
• Embed security early in new customer features and drive vulnerability management with the InfoSec team, using AI-driven tools to automate vulnerability triage and investigation.

Required profile

• Deep knowledge of Java internals and JVM memory management, with high-performance, thread-safe, lock-free code in large open-source and enterprise codebases.
• Experience building scalable, high-concurrency authorization systems, including credential/token validation and consistent authorization decisions across a distributed system.
• Solid understanding of distributed systems security, including node-to-node mutual trust, zero-trust transport and cluster state propagation.
• Proven track record of using AI to accelerate development and debugging.
• Ability to collaborate across functions and teams and to work autonomously in a distributed team.

• OAuth 2.0 and SAML
• Bonus points: cipher suites, TLS handshakes, PKI, Post-Quantum Cryptography, FedRAMP, FIPS 140 and SOC 2 compliance, and experience with data store or search engine internals.

• Base salary only, with no variable component; typical range 307,800 to 486,900 PLN.
