Staff / Senior Staff Software Engineer – AI Systems

About the role

We are looking for a hands‑on Staff or Senior Staff Software Engineer to lead the architecture and technical direction of AI‑powered backend systems for CKEditor. This individual contributor role focuses on building reliable, scalable AI features and integrations.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design and implementation of AI‑powered backend services, from exploration to production.
• Design scalable, maintainable systems, making decisions on APIs, service boundaries, reliability, performance, security and cost.
• Turn complex product ideas into experiments, prototypes and production‑ready solutions.
• Build robust LLM integrations and establish testing, evaluation, monitoring and improvement practices.
• Write and review code, solve technical challenges and mentor engineers.

Required profile

• Proven experience designing and delivering complex production systems at Staff, Senior Staff or Tech Lead level.
• Strong hands‑on experience with TypeScript, Node.js, software architecture and distributed systems.
• Experience building LLM‑ or AI‑powered features in production, including testing, observability and reliability.
• Ability to influence technical decisions and mentor engineers without formal authority.
