R&D Design Engineer - Insulation and Components

About the role

Hitachi Energy is looking for a Design Engineer for its Transformers Business Unit to join the Global Product Care team for Insulation and Components in Lodz, Poland. The engineer develops and designs products and systems that meet customer needs and industry standards, working with cross-functional teams and factories worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Establish mechanical simulation models for transformer components such as bushings, tap-changers and measurement devices, and run static/dynamic, seismic, short-circuit impact and thermal-structure coupling analyses
• Verify mechanical performance against IEC, IEEE, GB and other standards, issue simulation reports and support product R&D, type testing and mass production
• Develop internal tools for mechanical evaluation, support factory troubleshooting and collaborate on new R&D solutions
• Ensure compliance with external and internal regulations, procedures and guidelines
• Work with the supply chain team so designs are manufacturable and cost-effective, and select materials and manufacturing processes
• Carry out design reviews and verifications, and take on project leadership or a key role in project teams while mentoring junior colleagues

Required profile

• Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics or a related field
• At least 3 years of R&D or engineering experience, preferably in high-voltage equipment or components
• Solid mechanical knowledge, ideally in electrical insulators or high-voltage components
• Good written and spoken English
• Understanding of IEC, IEEE, ISO and ASTM standards
• Ability to work with technical teams across the world
