Application Security Engineer – Digital News Platform

About the role

Solvd Inc. is seeking an Application Security Engineer to lead security for a greenfield digital news platform built for a major international news brand. Security is embedded throughout the product lifecycle, from architecture to multi‑year support.

Key responsibilities

• Define and validate application and platform security controls across all delivery phases.
• Perform architecture and threat‑model reviews at design stage and as the platform evolves.
• Review authentication, authorization, and privileged‑access controls for CMS, APIs and integrated services.
• Validate API and integration security across a composable, multi‑vendor architecture.
• Assess secrets, credentials and token‑management practices throughout the stack.
• Coordinate vulnerability scanning and penetration‑testing activities, and guide remediation.
• Ensure encryption and secure data handling for storage, transit and third‑party integrations.
• Review security logging, monitoring and incident‑response requirements, supporting GDPR and privacy engineering.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience in application security or security engineering, with hands‑on threat modelling and architecture reviews.
• Proven ability to produce clear remediation guidance and security acceptance documentation for engineering teams.

Required skills

• OAuth, OIDC, RBAC and privileged‑access management.
• API security and integration pattern assessment.
• Secrets management, credential handling and token lifecycle best practices.
• Vulnerability scanning, penetration testing coordination.
• Encryption standards, secure data handling, GDPR compliance.
• SIEM, security logging and incident‑response tooling.
• Familiarity with composable CMS platforms such as AEM or Amplience.
• Relevant certifications (CISSP, OSCP, CEH).
