Senior Software Engineer, Engine & Distributed Systems

About the role

StackAI is a no‑code AI workflow platform that lets companies build, deploy and scale AI‑powered workflows. The core of the product is a durable execution engine that runs agents at any scale, from a second to days, handling failures and resumptions. We are looking for a senior engineer to own and evolve this engine.

Key responsibilities

• Own the execution engine, including runtime, scheduling and sub‑agent parallelisation.
• Build checkpointing, resumption and recovery mechanisms so long‑running work survives failures and restarts.
• Design the execution model, deciding how work is scheduled, queued and moved between synchronous and asynchronous processing.
• Engineer for scale and reliability, meeting strict health targets for worker freshness, deploy safety, latency and throughput.
• Enable ecosystem integration by making it easy to add new agent harnesses, orchestration frameworks and model capabilities.

Required profile

• 5+ years building backend systems in production with deep distributed‑systems experience.
• Hands‑on experience with durable execution or workflow orchestration tools such as Temporal or Cadence.
• Strong command of concurrency, queueing, retries and fault‑tolerance under load.
• Proficiency in Python and modern backend frameworks (e.g., FastAPI) with solid database fundamentals (Postgres).
• Passion for solving correctness problems that other components rely on.
• Ability to grow into broader distributed‑systems challenges even if not every skill is mastered yet.
