Senior Software Engineer – Encryption & PHI

About the role

We are looking for a senior Python engineer who has built security‑critical product systems. You will join the Core Engineering team to design and implement encryption, key‑management, PHI/PII handling, and tenant isolation for StackAI.

Key responsibilities

• Build encryption and key‑management systems, including key scoping, rotation, and cross‑deployment support.
• Protect sensitive data by detecting, transforming, and safely handling PHI, PII, and other confidential information across workflows and storage.
• Secure customer credentials and tokens from storage through runtime usage.
• Strengthen product trust boundaries with improved tenant isolation, signing, verification, session handling, and service‑to‑service authentication.
• Create shared security foundations by building Python services, libraries, and APIs for consistent security‑critical behavior.
• Plan and execute safe migrations, staged rollouts, observability, recovery, and rollback of live systems.

Required profile

• 4+ years of experience building and operating production backend systems.
• Strong professional experience with Python in a substantial production codebase.
• Hands‑on experience implementing and operating security‑critical product systems.
• Depth in at least one area such as encryption, key management, signing/authentication, multi‑tenant isolation, or sensitive‑data processing.
• Practical knowledge of applied cryptography and secure storage.
• Experience changing critical systems without disrupting existing customers or data.
• Strong judgment around trust boundaries, failure modes, and consequences of compromise.
• Ability to take ambiguous technical problems from investigation through production rollout.
