Lead Software Engineer - Java

About the role

Mastercard is looking for a Lead Software Engineer with deep Java expertise to design and build next‑generation digital products for a global audience. You will join the API Platform team, which enables partners to access payment, data, loyalty and security APIs through a single gateway.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop robust, scalable backend services for internal and external customers.
• Iterate on new features for the evolving API Platform, from concept through testing and release.
• Contribute to Mastercard open‑source projects, including API client signing and encryption libraries.
• Implement automation for build, deployment, configuration, validation and monitoring.
• Collaborate with global technology, data and operations teams to ensure seamless integration.
• Act as a subject‑matter expert for the API Platform, supporting customer integrations when needed.

Required profile

• Strong background in delivering high‑volume web services and complex web applications.
• Proven experience leading architectural decisions and hands‑on implementation.
• Passion for building high‑quality, high‑performing, extensible software.
• Ability to mentor engineers, conduct design and code reviews, and drive engineering excellence.
