System Engineer – Global Infrastructure (Linux/VMware)

About the role

Join Bosch's global infrastructure team to manage and evolve the technological backbone that supports our worldwide operations. You will work with enterprise‑grade virtualization, large‑scale Linux systems, high‑performance x86 hardware and resilient storage architectures.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and evolve global VMware vSphere/vSAN environments as part of a 3rd‑level engineering team.
• Oversee installation, configuration and lifecycle management of enterprise Linux (Ubuntu/Debian, RHEL) on thousands of servers.
• Develop and maintain Ansible playbooks, scripts and CI/CD pipelines to automate deployments, hardening and capacity management.
• Maintain the x86 server hardware portfolio, collaborate with vendors such as HPE, and manage firmware and lifecycle processes.
• Design, operate and optimise software‑defined storage (vSAN) and integrate SAN/NAS solutions.
• Act as escalation point for complex issues, performing root‑cause analysis across hardware, hypervisor, OS and storage layers.
• Implement security hardening, integrate Linux with AD, PAM and Kerberos, and address vulnerability findings.
• Enhance monitoring and observability using Grafana, Nagios and Icinga.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Electrical/Electronics Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
• Extensive experience with large‑scale VMware vSphere/vCenter and vSAN environments.
• Deep knowledge of enterprise Linux distributions (RHEL, Ubuntu/Debian) and related storage and networking concepts.
• Strong background in x86 server hardware architecture and remote management tools (e.g., HPE iLO, OneView).
• Proven automation skills using Ansible, Bash or Python.
• Fluent English communication skills.
