Senior Data Center Field Engineer – Controls & BMS

About the role

Data4 is looking for a Senior Field Engineer to lead the design, installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of Controls and Building Management Systems (BMS) across its data centre campuses. The role combines technical expertise with leadership, ensuring reliability, efficiency and compliance of automation and power‑management equipment in mission‑critical environments.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive technical audits of Controls, BMS, EPMS and monitoring systems across all sites, maintaining accurate documentation and ensuring compliance with corporate standards.
• Support commissioning, integrated systems testing and validation of sequence‑of‑operations for new builds, retrofits and capacity expansions.
• Develop and maintain a centralized knowledge base, technical standards, troubleshooting procedures and as‑built records for Controls and BMS.
• Deliver structured training, workshops and competency assessments to raise engineering expertise in automation, troubleshooting and system optimisation.
• Create technical reports, performance dashboards and analytical tools to monitor asset reliability and service continuity.

Required profile

• 7+ years of hands‑on field engineering experience with BMS/BAS and controls systems in data centres or other mission‑critical facilities.
• Bachelor’s degree in Automation and Control Systems Engineering or equivalent experience.
• Proven ability to lead root‑cause investigations, develop corrective actions and improve long‑term system reliability.

Required skills

• Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) – Siemens, Rockwell Automation (Allen‑Bradley) certifications.
• Advanced expertise in at least one BMS/BAS platform and associated SCADA environment.
• Hands‑on experience with Honeywell BMS, Schneider Electric EcoStruxure, Siemens Desigo.
• Knowledge of chillers, cooling‑plant controls, electrical power management, generator controllers and automatic transfer switches.
• Experience with FAT, SAT and Integrated Systems Testing (IST) processes.
