C++ Architect - Power Grid Software

About the role

HITACHI ENERGY SERVICES is looking for an experienced R&D Software Architect focused on C++ application development for performance-critical systems, in Krakow. The role leads the architecture of scalable, high-performance and secure software in the Grid Automation domain, working with global technology teams on real-time software for critical infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Lead system design for multithreading, synchronization, I/O and latency requirements of real-time operation
• Architect interoperability layers between high-performance C++ cores and managed runtimes (.NET, Rust) with minimal latency overhead
• Drive performance optimization and scalability, including profiling, lock contention reduction and predictable latency at scale
• Maintain code quality through code reviews, unit testing and SOLID, KISS, DRY practices
• Mentor developers and lead architecture reviews, design documentation and roadmaps
• Collaborate with engineering, product and business stakeholders and support technology decisions on dependencies, build tooling and secure software supply chain
• Maintain cross-platform support and Linux development and deployment strategies
• Work in an agile environment and contribute to new features and system improvements

Required profile

• University degree in computer science, engineering or a related technical field
• 10+ years of experience in senior technical or architecture roles
• Experience developing systems for power grid management and monitoring, including WAMS/WAMPAC, PMU data, SCADA, IED, RTU and industrial protocols (IEC 61850, IEC-60870-5-104, DNP3, OPC UA)
• Experience working with power grid industry clients and system integration, simulators or lab environments
• Knowledge of numerical methods, signal processing, control fundamentals and power system dynamics
• Excellent command of English, written and spoken
