Principal Software Engineer - AI

About the role

Snowflake is hiring a Principal Software Engineer for its AI team, which builds the AI Functions product, a key part of the Cortex Platform used by Snowflake customers. The team delivers scalable, governed, managed and flexible transformation primitives so customers can build AI ETL pipelines on all data, and focuses on the hard research and engineering problems behind reliable multi-cloud services.

Key responsibilities

• Build the customer-facing AI Functions portfolio of products.
• Design and implement highly scalable distributed platforms within the global Snowflake platform.
• Participate in decisions on technical or business issues.
• Collaborate with engineers across teams on cross-functional initiatives.
• Ensure operational readiness of the services and meet customer commitments on reliability, availability and performance.

Required profile

• 14+ years of experience designing, building and supporting large-scale systems in production.
• BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or a related major.
• Experience working with cross teams and product managers.
• Passion for AI/ML and NLP, and strong appreciation for end-to-end customer-facing products.

Required skills

• Strong computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms and distributed systems.
• Proficiency in Python or Java preferred.
• Knowledge of C, C++ and Go is a big plus.
